Sibneftegaz Releases 2.8 Million Valuable Fish Fry into Western Siberia’s Waters

23 September 2022

Sibneftegaz (Rosneft’s gas production asset) released 2.8 million fry of valuable fish into Western Siberia’s waters. At the oil companies’ order, the peled fry were bred in fish factories to a weight of at least 1.5 grams and then released into water bodies in the Oktyabrsky district of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous District-Yugra. The quantitative and qualitative indicators of fish fry were confirmed by representatives of the Nizhneobskoye Territorial Administration of the Federal Agency for Fishery and the Russian Federal Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography.

Preservation of the environment is an integral part of the corporate culture of Rosneft. The Company aims to achieve leadership positions in minimising the environmental impact and ensuring the eco-friendliness of its production, implements several comprehensive programmes for the preservation and restoration of natural resources.

The peled is a valuable commercial fish and significant to the lives and livelihoods of the indigenous peoples of the North. This fish species successfully adapts to changing environmental conditions, allowing it to be used effectively for stocking rivers in Central Russia and Southern Siberia.

For Sibneftegaz, which has been stocking Siberian ponds since 2017, this is an important component of the enterprise’s environmental programme. In total, more than 7 million peled and whitefish fry have been released in five years with the enterprise’s financial support.

Rosneft traditionally pays special attention to biodiversity preservation and the replenishment of aquatic bioresources. More than 120 million fish fry, including those of particularly valuable species, were released in the regions of the Company’s operation by the end of 2021.
