Ryazan Oil Refining Company plants a Lombardy poplar alley in Ryazan

10 September 2021

Employees of Ryazan Oil Refining Company (part of Rosneft's refining complex) planted 100 seedlings of Lombardy poplar trees in Dashkovo-Pesochnya, the most densely populated area of Ryazan, as part of an ecological initiative. New trees were planted on Zubkova Street.

Environment protection is an integral part of Rosneft Oil Company's corporate culture and social policy. The Company is implementing a number of comprehensive programmes for the preservation and restoration of natural resources. The Company is committed to the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. These include Life on Land and Sustainable Cities and Communities.

Lombardy poplars produce oxygen both during the day and at night since the tree's photosynthesis occurs for 24 hours a day. The life span of the poplar is about 300 years.

This is the fifth tree-planting action by the Ryazan Oil Refining Company this year. Oil refiners had undertaken a series of environmental initiatives for greening and improving some of the Ryazan streets, public gardens and parks. In April, employees planted an oak grove in the Turlatovo village and carried out aesthetic improvement work in the area. In May, Ryazan Oil Refining Company performed greening work in four parks, avenues, and streets. Employees planted more than 400 seedlings of linden, rowan and red oak.

The plant provided seedlings to five Ryazan schools within the framework of the All-Russian Ecological and Patriotic Campaign «School Garden of Memory». On Last Bell Day, graduates planted oak and linden trees in memory of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War who went to the front straight from school classes.

Also, Ryazan oil workers took part in five city volunteer clean-ups.

In addition to landscaping and planting trees and shrubs in the city, Ryazan Oil Refinery employees are also involved in the environmental education of schoolchildren and students. Ryazan Oil Refining Company provides ongoing backup to the Oka Biosphere Reserve, which preserves rare, red-listed floral and faunal species. The company organizes excursions and hikes for children, built on a research program to study the aspects of the nature of their native land.

Next spring season Ryazan Oil Refining Compan plans to continue planting trees in other streets of Ryazan.
